PowerDVD not optimized for this screen resolution
Posted on June 8, 2012
I found a older version of PowerDVD 9.5 and thought I would install it on my workstation so I could watch DVDs in my office.
My workstation has 2 dual DVI head nVidia cards and I run 4 monitors. I currently have CinePlayer and it’s a bit flaky but work. I figured it has something to do with multi-monitors. After I installed PowerDVD I though the number 1 DVD software company surely can figure out how to build a DVD player that works on a system with more than one monitor. I was promptly greeted by this error CyberLink PowerDVD 9.5 is not optimized for this screen resolution and will now close.
I guess I was wrong, I did a quick Google search and found that the latest version 12.0 also had the same error. On CycberLink forum many folks have the same problem and the company response over the last few years has been the same. “We are working on a solution” Really 5 major version changes and still no solution. I’m not even sure they know what causes the error. So I played around with the different settings and resolutions and thought if I disable all the other monitors would PowerDVD work. Sure enough it worked. I went through each monitor, since I have mixed resolutions two 1200×1600, one 1920×1080 and one 768×1200. I tried each one has a stand alone monitor and it worked on each monitor. The next test was to enable a second monitor while PowerDVD was running. As soon as the second monitor was enabled PowerDVD went down and show the same error CyberLink PowerDVD 9.5 is not optimized for this screen resolution and will now close.
So there you have PowerDVD will not work on a system with more than one monitor. The only solution you have is use CinePlayer or disable all but one monitor when watching a DVD.
Strictly a portrait issue. Three monitors in Landscape it works fine. Flip one to Portrait and it all dies
Hi All, it appears PowerDVD will not work on multi-monitor systems when one of the monitors in portrait. In my set up, I have 2 landscape, and one portrait, and it does not work (v10). CyberLink seriously neglects their customer base by not addressing this for several years now. Considering I got the software for free with my drive, I guess the software is worth what I paid for it.
Not quite accurate, it will work with multiple monitors, I’ve been running with three monitors for ages, but just added a fourth and poof PowerDVD no longer works.
I ‘think’ it may be the overall resolution of the monitors that is the issue, and it seems more picky about height, running 4 wide is fine, but two high (1800) kills it.
Do you have a nVidia or ATI video card? I though it might be the mixed resolutions, but I tried running the two 1200×1600 and that still had the problem.
